Symfoon: Sightseeing

The obstacles that blind and visually impaired people encounter on a daily basis are often invisible to the rest of us. A word of explanation instead of a hand gesture, a warning of an unexpected barrier, or even just a flyer with matte paper instead of glossy: a few small adjustments are enough to give them a warm welcome. To make that clear to every viewer, Symfoon came to us. We made a fresh animation video for them, the first in a whole series of videos.

The customer

Symfoon is the Flemish platform for the blind and visually impaired. They build inclusion from the strength of blind and visually impaired people. Together they strive to make all kinds of leisure activities, from museums to concerts and restaurants, freely accessible to blind and visually impaired people.

The challenge

From a loose cable to a demanding captcha on the website, the blind and visually impaired encounter many obstacles when visiting a place of interest. All the while, they would also like to enjoy a museum visit, a zoo or a monument.

To remove these kinds of obstacles, we need to get the viewer to think about accessibility. And at the same time give concrete tips on how to make the difference.

Our solution

We tell the colorful story of some characters who can enjoy sightseeing to the fullest after some minor adjustments. We chose a light-hearted voice-over and atmospheric music and sound effects. This keeps our viewer's attention from beginning to end.

Our video is part of a larger campaign. Symfoon also commissioned a podcast that transports you into the world of a visually impaired person, and a pdf that explains in great detail all the things you can do to give the blind and visually impaired a warm welcome. The icing on the cake of the campaign? Our animated video that explains in one minute what it's all about.
