City of Ghent: LEZ

Poor air quality can have serious consequences, especially for the most vulnerable among us. That's why the city of Ghent decided to take action. One of the steps they took was the introduction of a low-emission zone in 2020. A big change that needed to be announced in the right way. Time for some creative storytelling.

The customer

Ghent is a compact city that has the heartbeat of a metropolis. It's a vree wijze place with a glorious past as well as a focus on the future. To keep everything in this city on the right track, the city has many different departments.

The challenge

For many people, the low-emission zone means that they can no longer take their car into the center of Ghent. It's a bitter pill to swallow. And that is why it is so important that we present this decision in the right way. The city also needed to provide some counterbalance to the many half-truths and uproar that surrounded the introduction of the LEZ. They need a clarifying animated video.

All of this means that the right choice of words and the right atmosphere are crucial for this video. The intention is not to scare Ghent residents, but they do need to understand why this measure is necessary.

Our solution

The dust and soot particles in our air are like an unwelcome guest. We give them a face, and introduce a few different situations where they cause trouble. And who appears to chase these culprits away? Exactly: the city of Ghent!

We combine a friendly narrator with familiar, colourful backgrounds and characters. Creating a bright video that clearly conveys the message.
